1. Optimus Prime When we talk about "Transformers", geek or non-geek, the first name that ultimately comes to our mind is Optimus Prime. The primary hero of the franchise, decked mainly in a blue body kit with red flames, Optimus Prime epitomises the definition of a protagonist. Peter Cullen continues to lend his voice to the big truck that transforms into the hero we have all come to know and love. He shows a bit of humour but reverts back to his serious self in times of peril. His display of courage, competence and compassion along with that deep fatherly voice will make you want to embark on any adventure with him. So why is he cool? Being noble and fighting for what is right always deserves a top spot on top list. Plus he is the one and only, Optimus Prime! |
2. Megatron If you have a protagonist like Optimus Prime, you must surely have both a notable and worthy opponent. This is where Megatron comes into the picture. It is where the robots have their very own Batman and Joker. With respect to all things good versus evil, Megatron has proven to be a very viable opponent. With arms being able to transform into a gun, fusion cannon and fully equipped with a claw like crushing apparatus after his resurrection one would most certainly take notice of this character. He lives by his motto of "Peace through tyranny" and even the great Optimus Prime himself had to endure a 20-minute death to bring him down in "Revenge of the Fallen". Megatron deserves a mention as he is said to return in the franchise's third instalment. Guess you can never keep a true villain down |
3. Devastator What's cooler than a giant robot? Giant robots that combine forces giving us a giant Devastator. The Devastator is the combination of several Constructicons. When we say combination we take things seriously. It is said to have the upper body strength of a gorilla and comes fully equipped with a mouth that acts as a powerful turbine sucking everything in its way clean. The mass of the Devastator is surely a plus a point but it severely lacks in brain power so it ends up being a savage beast instead with Megatron as his master. Picture a giant bodyguard. His screen time is short-lived but is definitely worth mentioning. The Devastator along with his balls of steel both appeared and perished in the franchise's second instalment. He surely made an impact landing him on our third spot. |
4. Bumblebee We always have a soft spot for underdogs. Bumblebee is far from being one in the movie as he is one of the franchise's main characters. He may be lacking in size but he makes up for it in heart and guts. A loyal companion and mode of transportation for Sam Whitwicky, whether he is in Chevrolet Camaro or Transformers form, he will never back down from a fight. I am pretty sure I wasn't the only one who got choked up when his legs got blown off in the franchise's first instalment while trying to rescue Sam. He is always willing to go to lengths to prove himself to Optimus Prime and his comrades. For being a loyal guardian and a fighter at heart, he is definitely our only Transformer that floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. |
5. Starscream We don't always favour the good guys. We have a knack of taking a trip over to the dark side where we find another cool Transformer, Starscream. His coolness needs no explanation when we see him move through the skies with supreme ease. His ability to transform into a Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor jet puts him at a whole different level of advantage. He is always doing the bidding of Megatron but in his own world, he is swamped with his own plans of being the new leader for the Decepticons. He passed on the chance of having the Allspark all to himself but rest assured, he will be back with a vengeance. Now who doesn't love a rebel? |
